Decentralized control system design for a variable-cycle gas turbine engine

Summary form only given. The selection of decentralized control structures, as well as decentralized control law design for the chosen structures, has been addressed. In each of these two phases of the design process due consideration has been given to the nonlinear characteristics of the engine, such as operating point variations, actuator limits, and fuel limit schedules. The chief analytical tool utilized in the control structure design phase was the relative gain array, and the chief analytical tool utilized in the control law design phase was the structured singular value interaction measure. Both have been shown to be extremely effective in the application under consideration. The design procedure started with a necessary and sufficient condition for control structure viability. Weakening this condition in the direction of necessity gave the relative gain array, and weakening it in the direction of sufficiency gave the structured singular value interaction measure.<
