Performance analysis of downstream transmission of 10Gbps WDM PON using single and hybrid optical amplifiers

In this paper, the downstream transmission of 10Gbps WDM PON with 32 and 64 ONUs have been investigated with single and hybrid optical amplifiers such as EDFA, RAMAN, SOA, EDFA-RAMAN, EDFA-SOA, RAMAN-RAMAN and EDFA-EDFA. The performance has been analyzed on the basis of transmission distance from 40 km to 200 km in terms of Q-factor, minimum bit error rate and output power. It is demonstrated that when the dispersion is 2ps/nm/km and the number of ONUs can be increased, EDFA-EDFA provides better results in terms of Q-factor, minimum BER and output power.
