Design of 2-D FIR filters using McClellan transformation with genetic algorithms

A powerful genetic algorithm approach is proposed in order to determine the optimal coefficients of the McClellan transformation. It can be used to design any arbitrary shape transformation contours to map from 1D prototypes to 2D finite impulse response (FIR) filters very effectively. In this paper, we present design methods for 2D fan filters with arbitrary slope, elliptical filters, elliptical filters with arbitrary orientation, circular filters and diamond-shaped filters in detail. There are several numerical examples given to demonstrate the usefulness and the efficiency of this proposed method.
