Measurement Of Domain Wall Mobility In magneto-optic media

Weng and Kryder previously measured the minimum field pulse duration required to collapse domains in rare earth-transition metal films and estimated the domain wall velocity as the distance the domain wall had to travel to shrink the domain from its original diameter to the critical diameter at which it was no longer stable and would collapse due to the pressure from domain wall surface tension. Although the camera system they used to perform these experiments had been used to photograph dynamic processes in MO media, for measurements near the Curie temperature, the signal from the MO media became too weak to be observed. Hence they were not able to actually observe the dynamic collapse process, but had to rely upon observations before and after the field pulse was applied.
