Analysis of tunneling magnetic force microscopy using a flexible triangular probe

Rice and Moreland have shown that magnetic data on a hard disk can be imaged with a tunneling microscope by using a flexible triangular probe cut from a thin film of magnetic material. We have assembled a similar device. Our aim is to use this microscope to not only image the microscopic magnetic patterns but to measure the constituent magnetic fields. To this end we have made a complete analysis of the interaction between the probe tip and a typical recorded pattern.
