Digital recording as a communication channel

This paper is concerned with describing a digital recording as a digital communication channel. It is assumed that the reciprocity principle is applicable and that the received signal is corrupted with additive white Gaussian noise. The influence of the physical parameters of the channel, such as the gap length, on the matched filter bound and on the loss due to intersymbol interference (ISI) are studied based on the maximum likelihood sequence estimator (MLSE).
