New approach to investigation of the dynamics of a pulsed-modulated nearly single-mode injection laser-consideration of spontaneous fluctuations of carriers and photons

The effect of spontaneous carrier and photon fluctuations on the dynamics of a nearly single-mode injection laser was studied under conditions of short-pulse generation. An approach allows a new system of differential rate equations to be derived for the statistical moments of electron concentration and photon density in the laser modes. It was established that the spontaneous carrier and photon fluctuations result in splitting of generation pulses under the strong (nonlinear) modulation of the injection laser's bias current in the microwave band and, consequently, in their longer duration. The results of the conducted numerical simulation refine the physical picture of the laser's dynamical behavior under pulsed conditions and enable the experimental findings obtained to be adequately explained.
