Digital X-ray image processing using biologically inspired methods

We show how the multi-wire proportional chamber (a particle detector developed for high-energy physics experiments), can be used for student education in digital X-ray imaging. It is further discussed how the system can be extended as a digital X-ray system for mammography with online processing. The techniques discussed include wavelet filtering as well as the biologically inspired pulse-coupled neural network approach.
