Spatially Modulated Gain Erbium-Doped Ti:LiNbO3 Waveguide Laser

In this letter, we present the first 1.5-μm single frequency Fabry-Pérot laser device that is free of spatial hole burning. The laser was realized using erbium-doped LiNbO
₃
waveguide. The optical gain of this laser is spatially distributed in such a manner to coincide with the standing wave pattern of the oscillating laser field. Thereby, the spatial hole burning was eliminated. Clean 1531-nm single-frequency operation was demonstrated.
