Genetic algorithm plug-in controller for the Connoisseur/sup TM/ control package

The modelling and control of systems with linear mathematics is a well established field. However, for applications in the real world, the development of nonlinear modelling and control techniques continues. The paper describes the development of a genetic algorithm (GA) based nonlinear control strategy. The control problem is outlined, an overview of genetic algorithms is given, and the use of a genetic algorithm as a controller is explained. Example results are shown, with comments about the various factors that affect the performance of the controller, and the practical implementation of the controller.
