Reliability of medium voltage primary substation structures

One of the top priorities of EDF's (France) corporate strategic plan is to improve the quality of electricity supplies. A main area of planned progress is the reduction in the frequency of major outages in densely populated urban areas which arise from the total or partial loss of primary substations. This paper describes how, since 1991, work has been undertaken with a view to improving the reliability of primary substations in urban areas.
