Benefits analysis of voltage regulation on MV networks' investments

Historical distribution networks have been planned for end users, without many concerns about distributed generations. They target to supply all the consumers while ensuring a good quality of supply. Following this objective, distribution network operators converge to a small amount of typical layouts, sizing strategies and operation rules depending on the degree of service quality and the initial investment desired. Increasing the amount of distributed generators to the distribution network raises technical problems and brings planning rules to be no more optimal. The solutions that are currently used may finally become insufficient. This paper aims at comparing efficiency of innovative voltage control strategies on MV network investments while integrating large amount of distributed production.
