“Giant current density” and ‘anomalous electron transport’ observed at room temperature with nanogranular materials

Focused electron beam induced processing allows to repair defects in photomasks with high precision. The technology is employed to fabricate field emitter electron sources. Investigating the field emitters a nanogranular material is found, composed from metal crystals, which are embedded in a fullerene matrix. Those emitters show the capability to deliver “Giant current density” due to an `anomalous electron transport' observed at room temperature. Several authors observed these effects in experiments. An explanation for such characteristics is given to explain the non destructive electron transport with a current density up to 0.1 GA/cm
²
in nanowires of Au/C and Pt/C nanogranular materials.
