Computing the transient field in solids radiated from arbitrarily structured transducer arrays

The explicit computer-aided time domain method, based on the spatial pulse response approach is proposed for the determination of the displacement field radiated from planar arbitrarily structured array, directly coupled to an elastic isotropic half-space. The input traction vector enables the arbitrarily oriented excitations to be modelled. The computer acts as the "generator" of the pulse response and thus, it does not require any analytical solutions prior to the computations. The possibilities of the method are illustrated by computations for focused and non-focused piston operating in thickness or shear mode, and for the beam-steered and focused multielement linear array operating in thickness mode.
