Space-time rain rate field generator for multi-antenna satellite communication applications

In this paper, a model for generating correlated in space and time rain attenuation time series is proposed. The model is based on the multi-dimensional Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) for the generation of rain rate time series correlated in space on a specific area. Giving the geometrical and electrical characteristics of the link, rain attenuation first order statistics (long-term exceedance probability) can be generated. Moreover, the same space-time rain rate synthesizer can be used for the prediction of joint exceedance probability of rain attenuation and the performance of diversity systems. Preliminary results are shown and a preliminary comparison to the prediction of the Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF) of rain attenuation derived by the recommendation of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), ITU-R. P. 618, using data from ITU's study group 3 (DBSG3), takes place. The results are very encouraging.
