Progress in the production and application of light

A review of progress in illumination during the past 4 years has been prepared by the AIEE committee on production and application of light,

and is presented here. This report deals primarily with new types and forms of light sources and improvements in old ones. Some examples of modern applications of these new light sources are discussed in 2 other papers in this issue: “Today's Trends in Lighting,” pages 1100–10; and “Electrical Features of the Texas Centennial Central Exposition,” pages 1060–74.
