Engineering quality improvement through tqc activity

This paper describes the total quality control (TQC) principle and techniques for use in an engineering department with the process involving practical experience for one manufacturer. In Japan, TQC, a successful concept to improve product quality, is presently stressing main efforts in regard to quality improvement for all company activities. Engineering is an upper stream function in manufacturing, and one of the key factors for overall company quality improvement. The consumer electronics product design was taken up as an example, and remarkable success was achieved. The main measures were data-based decision process and quality conscious attitude revolution for engineers and all company members related to the product. The problems caused by the introduction of these measures into a particular industrial culture are also discussed.
