Challenges in battery pack design

Regarding battery systems for electric vehicles a lot of steps have to be taken into account during the development process - from system layout to the integration in the vehicle. In doing so, the overall design of a battery pack can be divided in mechanical, thermal and electrical issues. This work aims to give an insight to crucial points in these areas such as the layout of the battery management system and its interference with the rest of the vehicle. The stated design recommendations shall be provided among others with results from research projects supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
