Power/energy: EPRI looks inward, and ahead: The electric power research institute's senior staff, in a candid session, probes its programs and progress

The problem: How to get the most for the electric utility industry's research and development dollar. The answer, an ambitious and innovative one, was initiated by the utilities themselves when they founded the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in 1973. EPRI's charter — to develop new and improved technology for environmentally acceptable production, transmission, and distribution of electric power to help the utility industry meet present and future electric energy needs.
