The boom in personal computers and the rapid expansion of computing systems built on small computers has brought large numbers of people who are not professional programmers into direct contact with computers. As a result, more and more engineers, businessmen, accountants, and secretaries are discovering how frustrating it can be to get a computer to do what they want it to. Conventional programming languages seem to be too cumbersome, complicated, and time-consuming for easy use by those with little computer training.
