Novel technique using response characteristics to identify volatile organic compounds

A novel technique using response characteristic curves from sensors to identify volatile organic compounds is proposed. The data obtained from rise-time, peak-time and recovery-time are used as representatives for the characteristics of the response curves. The measuring system consists of 3 semiconductor gas sensors. Then, 9 data points are obtained for each measurement. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as ethyl alcohol, acetone, ammonia, acetaldehyde are used as samples to be identified. It is found that the VOCs are effectively identified with this technique.
