Automated classification of complex errors in discrete sequential tasks

Use of a heuristically guided state-space search to classify complex errors in discrete sequential processes is described, and a general method for deriving heuristic functions to guide such a search is introduced. A specific heuristic function and alternate sets of elementary errors are studied through the use of an implemented program.
