General models for simulating population growth in insects grouped both by stages and age classes

Pest models are typically required by modern pest management systems as the basis for decisionmaking [1], [2]. Many models have been developed in the past that are specific to a given pest population [3]. The authors have found from their past experience in this area that the structure of these models are similar and thus a general model structure can be identified. Based on this understanding, several general component models are developed that can be used to simulate the population growth of many insects of interest. It is the purpose of this correspondence to present these models and show their application to agricultural pests.
