A team also needs a framework that allows it to perform the tasks needed to run the team's daily business activities. Self-Managed Work Teams are an integral part of the business activities within Harris Semiconductor at the Mountaintop, Pennsylvania site. Harris teams have evolved through team leaders and adopted the Star Concept structure to improve overall effectiveness of teaming. Team members are assigned to a point and assume the responsibilities for the team. These assignments are rotated on a timely basis so that the skill base of all team members elevates which increases productivity, communication, and flexibility within the production area.
