Optical generation of a highly coherent microwave signal by heterodyne phase locking two grating coupled external cavity semiconductor lasers

Summary form only given. In summary, two 830 nm external cavity semiconductor lasers were phase locked by using a discriminator-aided phase locked loop. A microwave signal with very low phase noise and less than mHz centre carrier linewidth was achieved.
