Teletraffic performance of an event-driven simulator for a decentralised channel access control scheme in CDMA cellular networks

We present and analyse a decentralised channel access protocol in a direct sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) network. In this protocol, every channel is available for use in every cell and channel access decisions are made by the mobiles based on information broadcast from the base stations. This is different from the access strategies which have appeared in the literature where call requests are processed solely by the base stations. We present extensive simulation results of our protocol and include propagation effects such as path loss with distance, log-normal shadowing, and multipath fading. We further include fixed-step closed-loop power control and update the power control command rate at a faster rate than the maximum expected fading rate. We present the performance of the network in terms of call blocking, outage, and grade of service.
