Bow tie search theory and design

Bow tie search is a fence or push broom search technique which is applicable to small beam (large aperture), mechanically scanned reflector radars. It is useful for detecting a target whose angular velocity is known (at least approximately or worst case), but whose angle-of-arrival and time-of-arrival is uncertain. The theory of bow tie search is developed in two independent parts: bow tie scan theory and bow tie detection theory. All the key bow tie search parameters and their relationships are derived and expressed in their simplest, most fundamental forms. A summary of these bow tie search results is provided.
