Implementing it governance using COBIT: A case study focusing on critical success factors

Information Technology Governance (ITG) has become the need of the time due to mergers, acquisitions and integrations in modern enterprises thus increasing supply chain interdependencies. Many public sector enterprises in Oman have realized the importance of integration to provide comprehensive services to its citizens and thereby align to e-governance strategies. This effort has forced enterprises to depend more on IT based services that have to be optimally managed by having a fully functional ITG system. Implementing an effective ITG system based on existing frameworks is not only complex but time consuming and resource intensive. In this article, authors have used a public sector organisation, as a case study and identified the critical success factors and then proposed a novel framework for achieving ITG. This framework was developed after evaluating the four domains of COBIT and selecting critical processes and control objectives which are then mapped with Prince2, ITIL and ISO 270001 for effective ITG implementation.
