Determination of generator siting and contract options based on interutility tie line flow impacts

Various aspects of power system analysis are currently conducted by using an explicit scenario for each perturbation relative to a preestablished base case scenario. Observations presented in this study demonstrate that many single scenarios are often closely similar when distribution factors on inter-utility transmission ties are used to guide a scenario reduction technique. This process facilitates a reduction in the total number of scenarios needed to characterize a particular network configuration, while preserving their associated parallel path characteristics. This paper applies the technique to energy transactions and generator siting options using generator shift factors and suggests it can be used as an initial screening method for broad area assessment.
