Long-term ozone generation from electrostatic air cleaners

Ozone is one of the indoor air pollutants which has received little attention. One of the primary sources which can generate a significant amount of ozone is an electrostatic air cleaner. In this paper, long-term ozone generation from two commercial electrostatic air cleaners were studied. The measurements included longitudinal and lateral distributions of ozone concentration downstream from the outlet of the air cleaner. In addition, effects of fan speed on ozone distribution were investigated. Finally, recommendations for a safer operation of air cleaners were provided.
