African prosperity: The role of optimal electricity use

The authors examine electrical energy use in the context of a developing country with special reference to South Africa. The South African energy using sectors are identified in terms of energy use, and Eskom's campaign of promoting the effective use of electrical energy in each is briefly described. It is concluded that electricity plays a pivotal role in a nation's development and that its effective use can help in assuring future prosperity, but that this is only possible with end-user awareness.
