Next generation networks multiservice network design

Next Generation Network (NGN) architectures offer the promise of supporting the rapid deployment of multiple applications on a single converged infrastructure. The design of such networks presents many complex challenges. Network designers are faced with the task of addressing multiple applications with divergent needs, riding on multiple network layers and technologies, often implemented with multiple vendors' equipment. This paper will describe such a unified design methodology, known as MultiService Network Design (MSND). MSND is an integrated design methodology, specifically designed to achieve an optimized multi-layer, multi-service, and multi-vendor design. The integration guarantees that all layers of the network design are based on the same assumptions and data, and allows the operator to assess whether the overall design meets their technical and financial goals.
