Green synthesis of Ag nanoparticles using Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) in a batch process

Nanoparticles of different materials have hitherto been synthesized and are continuously being synthesized by bringing about reduction of certain metallic salt solutions as precursors using strong chemical reducing agents. However, it is found that these reducing agents have not been found to be eco-friendly which make the synthetic pathway adopted unacceptable across the board as in the present world all out efforts are initiated to green the synthetic routes. The reducing agents like sodium Borohydride, NaBH

may have more or less toxic potential and thereby health hazardous. Efforts therefore have been continuously underway to employ green approaches to synthesize nanoparticles from different materials using green reducing agents which have biological origin, and are therefore environmentally benign, efficient both in terms of economy and energy. In this research initiative a green pathway in the form of using Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) for synthesizing Ag nanoparticles along with a suitable capping agent and further characterizing it by using UV-Visible Spectrophotometry as well as Particle size distribution.
