It is typically difficult for innovators to find the opportunity to explore their ideas in large corporations due to management imposed constraints. Big business must, after all, achieve corporate objectives in a very competitive world arena. The most obvious solution might be for an innovator to simply start a new business. However, assuming such a new venture is successful in acquiring a reasonable amount of investment capital, high technology development is extraordinarily expensive and capital will most likely run out before a new technology can be proven. This paper describes an alternative that exists between large corporate resources and insufficient small business resources: an essential partnership of a new, high-tech, start-up company and a well-equipped, academic development and fabrication semiconductor facility. The partnership is between Advanced Vision Technologies, Inc. (AVT) and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) located in Rochester, New York.
