Proposal of a new PET positron detector for intestinal cancers

PET is a useful system for cancer inspection but it is not effective for intestinal and stomach cancers because of random peristaltic motion. We propose a new PET positron detector for intestinal cancers. Photo-Multiplier Tubes are widely used for the detector of scintillation light. Recently, a new photon detector of MPPC (Multi-Pixel Photon Counter) has been developed. Narrow position-sensitive electron (positron) detectors consist of scintillation fibers and MPPC's can be produced. This detector can be installed into intestine from anus and PET positrons can be measured directly. Inspection of intestinal (and stomach) cancers may be possible.
