Predictive signal processing in instrumentation and measurement: A tutorial review

Additional phase delay or lag is a remarkable but unavoidable drawback of conventional signal processing methods. This delay is particularly harmful when the filtered primary signal is to be used for time-critical feedback, synchronization, monitoring, or alarming purposes. Predictive processing of real-time signals offers indisputable advantages for these applications. In this tutorial, we give a review of different Predictive Signal Processing (PSP) algorithms and methods, as well as successful instrumentation and measurement applications. Also, the main trends of the future PSP research and development are discussed.
