Simulation of PWM switching regulators using linear output predictions and corrections

A time-domain simulation technique for the PWM switching regulators with output voltage feedback is presented. The regulator's power stage is simulated by stepwise integration with progressive analysis of switches' state. The feedback network is analyzed by formulating a difference equation defining its dynamics at each switching cycle. The prominent features of this method are the general way of looking for a valid switching topology in the power stage, the use of a simple numerical method for determining the gate signal which is applied to the main switch, and the use of simple algebraic manipulations only. The methodology is favorably compared with the available literature as it can be seen by simulating a practical switched-mode regulator.
