A Contactless Power Supply System for Intra-corporeal Medical Instrumentations

At present, most of power supply systems for intracorporeal medical instrumentations adopt internal power storage mode or transcutaneous energy transmission system. However, both patterns have some disadvantages: internal power storage mode cannot supply long-term power so that this mode limits the continuity of total system; infection is easily generated in a transcutaneous energy transmission system which brings numerous inconveniences to patients. In order to solve these problems, a novel contactless power supply system designed by our group, which transmits electric power for intracorporeal medical instrumentations from outside of the skin to inside. The novel power supply system consists of a pair of coupling permanent magnets mounted on a motor and a subminiature generator respectively. After electricity passes through a voltage doubling rectification circuit and a filter circuit, it is able to charge a battery pack and provide energy for intracorporeal medical instrumentations, such as blood pump. Output voltage (5.5v-10.5v) of this system has achieved the requirement of high safety. With a variation of input voltage from 12v to 13v, output voltage is stable relatively. And at the point of 12v, maximum efficiency is obtained. This system doesn't need external wire connection and avoids infection. Furthermore, this equipment of power supply expands the freedom of patients, doing certain activities and improving their life qualities.
