Genetics, Policy, and Research [Perspectives on Graduate Life]

The fourth course of my medical school curriculum, titled "Human Genetics," was a significant change from spending hours in the gross anatomy laboratory every day or viewing hundreds of histological slides under a microscope. This short three-week course was designed to provide an overview of genetics and various genetic diseases. This class was particularly useful as the importance of genetics in clinical medicine continues to rise (especially with the increasing prevalence of consumer-directed genetic testing such as 23andMe).
