The assessment of groundwater environment vulnerability in Lincang Basin of Yunnan Province

The study on groundwater vulnerability is an effective technical measure for rational development and protection of groundwater resource. In the paper, according to the hydrogeology conditions of the Lincang Basin in Yunnan Province, USEPA's DRASTIC method was applied to evaluate the groundwater vulnerability of this area with the consideration of depth to the water table, Net recharge, aquifer material, soil type, topography, impact of vadose zone and hydraulic conductivity of aquifer based on the GlS technology. The results indicated that the areas with the highest vulnerability of Lincang Basin was main city area and farm areas. In order to preventing groundwater from pollution and realizing the sustainable development of groundwater resource, it was suggested that the discharge of industry wastewater and domestic sewage and the applying quantity of pesticide and chemical fertilizer should be controlled.
