An Optimized Electromagnetic 3D Field Solver for Frequencies Below the First Resonance

It is well known that the efficiency of solving 3D electromagnetic field problems in frequency domain may suffer from strongly varying material coefficients in the computational domain. The reason for this finding is that the condition number of the linear system of equations increases due to the large jumps in material parameters. To overcome this problem, powerful solution strategies like multigrid methods have been proposed. However, for the case of the full wave equation, these methods are still a matter of ongoing research. In this paper we propose an alternative algorithm that reduces the solution of the wave equation to that of a small number of scalar potential problems. We will demonstrate its efficiency for the example of a ferrite-loaded accelerator component.
