Study on Pulverized Coal Combustion in O2/CO2 Atmosphere

The pulverized coal combustion in O
₂
/CO
₂
atmosphere is one of the promising new technologies which can reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and NO
_x
. In this study, a three dimensional mathematical multiphase CFD model has been developed to simulate the combustion characteristics of pulverized coal in the atmospheres of O
₂
/CO
₂
. It was observed that the combustion characters of pulverized coal show great differently compared with the coal combustion process in the air. The flame temperature decreases when the gas N
₂
is replaced by CO
₂
. Also, the gas temperature is affected by the O
₂
/CO
₂
ratio in O
₂
/CO
₂
atmosphere.
