Platinum Nano-particles Supported by Surface-Functionalized Multi-wall Carbon Nanotubes to Be Used as PEMFC Catalyst

Surface nitrile group functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes supported Pt nanocomposites were prepared by the reduction of hexachloroplatinate acid in glycol solution suspended surface functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Average particle sizes of Pt nanoparticles were estimated by XRD method and TEM micrographs. The data show narrow distribution of the particle size of the Pt nanoparticles deposited on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Surface functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes were not only as support for Pt nanoparticles anchored to but also as stabilizer for the deposition of Pt nanoparticles dispersion, and affected the particle size and electro catalysis ability of the nanoparticles.
