Related dependability problems in fault-tolerant and secure computer-systems

This paper expounds that the dependability problems encountered in the fault-tolerant and secure computing area appear to be diverse and enormous and that much research needs to be done in the area. The authors discuss: the relationship between reliability, safety and security in computer systems; faults, errors, and failures; and the problem areas.
