“Lens-free” self-mixing sensor for velocity and vibrations measurements

We present an ultra-compact sensor based on optical feedback in a Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) that does not require any optical element. The setup proposed measures displacement and velocity with an operating range of several centimeters.
