"LASSI"-Lagoon-Air-Sea-Sediment-Interaction system

Dredging associated with the intracoastal waterway of Texas has raised environmental concerns for the sensitive estuarine and lagoonal waters. The Conrad Blucher Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has designed and deployed an advanced, remote estuarine processes environmental monitoring system in the fairway of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in Corpus Christi Bay, Texas. The Lagoon-Air-Sea-Sediment-Interaction (LASSI) data-collection system combines the most recent developments in marine instrumentation with powerful low-power consumption micro-computers, advanced software, specialized batteries, and radio spread-spectrum technology. The LASSI platform, as presently configured, logs 25 channels generating over 120 MB of raw data per week.
