Luminescence Quantum Efficiency of ${\rm Nd}^{3+}{\colon}{\rm Y}_{3}{\rm Al}_{5}{\rm O}_{12}$ Garnet Laser Ceramics Determined by Pump-Induced Line Broadening

Pump-induced line broadening has been used to investigate the thermal loading of laser-diode-pumped
${\rm Nd}^{3+}{\colon}{\rm Y}_{3}{\rm Al}_{5}{\rm O}_{12}$
laser ceramics with different
${\rm Nd}^{3+}$
-ion concentrations. This new method here proposed allow us to obtain, in an easy and direct way, the concentration dependence of the luminescence quantum efficiency of
${\rm Nd}^{3+}$
-ions in
${\rm Y}_{3}{\rm Al}_{5}{\rm O}_{12}$
ceramics. The experimentally obtained concentration-induced quantum efficiency quenching has been found to be in a very good accordance with theoretical models.
