A quantitative relation between the channel quality and the service quality in cellular mobile communication systems

Radio links in cellular mobile communication systems are fading and interference bounded. The deterioration of the radio channels due to fading and interference increases the actual traffic that a system has to cope with. This has the consequence of a reduced availability and, hence, a degraded quality of service. The paper addresses this problem by introducing virtual arrivals and virtual departures into the queueing model. By this means the quality of a nondeterministic channel, such as those of mobile communications, is taken into account. The result can be used for network design in cellular mobile communications.
