Suppressed demand-causes, measurement and cures

Suppressed power demand is a problem which occurs in the electrical distribution systems of many developing countries. This paper describes how the technical causes of the problem can be traced to one or more of three factors: inadequate power system capacity, leading to pre-emptive load-shedding; poor voltage regulation, leading to reduced energy consumption; or inadequate supply reliability, leading to extensive power interruptions.
