The tribological properties of N/sub 2//sup +/ implanted AuAgCu alloy and palladium in sliding contact with gold electroplate

Flats comprising Au24Ag6Cu alloy and electroplated palladium were nitrogen implanted to a dosage of 2*10/sup 17/ ions-cm/sup -2/ to determine the effects of this treatment on friction and sliding wear behavior. Experiments were conducted using a reciprocating rider-on-flat apparatus in which the hemispherical countersurface consisted of electroplated cobalt gold. The applied load was 100 gmf with an amplitude of sliding of 0.5 cm. The N/sub 2//sup +/ implantation of the Au24Ag6Cu and the electroplated palladium produced a transition from the severe adhesive process of prow formation.<
